Libby
KC Name: Liberty Pesthound
Libby was only 10 months old and on her third return to the pound. The reason being separation anxiety.
The first home lasted one night, the second, three nights and the third she was returned the same day!
We’ve never shied away from separation anxiety in a dog or a foster dog. There’s always a reason behind it and it’s always workable; you just have to find out what the reason is for that particular dog. We’ve had thousands of pounds worth in damage from dogs with this anxiety, but at the end of the day, it’s all material things when compared to a dogs life and the stress they must be under to cause such damage. We therefore didn’t hesitate taking Libby home with us. It turned out that Libby’s anxiety was just lack of company, not necessarily human, but the company of another dog will do. Since we also had Blue at the time and offered her another outlet, in the form of empty boxes, if she was anxious, we have never actually had an issue with her.
She’s called Pesthound because she really is a pest. She loves hugs and cuddles but when you’re at home she’s super needy and has massively stabby toenails to go with it when she wants cuddles! The kids call her lick monster as she loves nothing better than to give them a good face wash.
Libby is a work in progress when it comes to agility. She’s now grade 4 after 2 years and isn’t the fastest dog around the ring. She doesn’t do courses when it’s above 16 degrees C so that basically writes us off for the whole summer! She also doesn’t do rain and has hidden in tunnels before rather than coming out!
However, when she’s in the mood she’s great, she’s very intelligent and knows her commands. She’s super agile and can turn on a pin, I just need to find the contents of that Pandora box that will make her go quicker (I have thought of a squirrel in my pocket but they have sharp teeth 😬)
